VU Law School Graduate - completed my Bachelor of Laws in November 2023 and graduated on 20 March 2024.Leo Cussen PLT Graduate - completed my PLT training in May 2024 and graduated in October 2024I am due to be admitted as a practicing lawyer in Victoria at an admission ceremony at the Supreme Court of Victoria on November 19 2024.I have undertaken 4 previous work placements with law firms/chambers. The first one was with Crockett Chambers for 1 week from October 2007 - November 2007 where my main function was to observe several barristers during their court appearances as well as a little bit of filing. The second one was with Faram Ritchie Davies in Shepparton from April 2021 - February 2022 (COVID interrupted placement) where I mostly did filing for a couple of the lawyers there, bound a magazine for one of the lawyers & worked on some legal documents for a couple of the lawyers. The third placement was with the VIC Bar Association/Victoria University Shadowing Program where I was (along with a fellow student) assigned to a barrister (Chris Brydon) in my preferred area of law (which was criminal law) and I got to shadow him when he made appearances in court, whilst he worked as a Duty Lawyer in the Magistrate’s Court as well as when he worked out of his chambers which gave me an insight into what it’s like to be a barrister. The fourth placement was with Victoria Legal Aid in Shepparton where I mostly just shadowed several of the lawyers there as they worked as Duty Lawyers at the Shepparton Magistrates Court.I am now looking for employment with a law firm who is willing to take a chance on someone with no legal industry experience except for course work & work placement! I’m available to start immediately for 3 days a week (Tuesday - Thursday) & then after my notice to leave my current employer has been accepted (they require 4 weeks notice of leaving), then I can work the extra 2 days (Monday & Friday).I can be a quick learner, am ambitious & can be a perfectionist at times. I just need someone to take a chance on me!The one thing I would like to be able to achieve as a lawyer is to try to help prevent cruelty to animals & I’m sure that once I get that experience as a lawyer that I could help in that area.
