Provides nursing professional clinical and educational guidance for the teams within the EHR Operations team who provide implementation and optimization of new/changing EHR functionality at the ambulatory clinics across the system. This RN position will help prepare and support new models of care by acquiring new knowledge and skills as needed. This RN position is responsible for the assessment of gaps in clinical care; planning and implementation of patient and family centered clinical education programming using EHR tools, and evaluation of clinical educational methods and program outcomes throughout ambulatory operations. Major emphasis will be placed on Primary and Specialty care model implementation and ongoing support/sustainability of the care model at the clinic level. Incorporation of the ambulatory care model encompasses all aspects of EHR clinical education including: clinical policy and procedures, clinical competency testing, clinical staff orientation, annual skills testing, and implementing standards of care. Clinical needs assessments are performed on a routine basis in order to evaluate current and develop future clinical training needs. The incumbent possesses a high degree of clinical skill and EHR functionality knowledge. The RN in this position applies innovative teaching strategies and methodologies in order to provide for a cost-effective and well-executed program of clinical education.

The clinical informatics specialist seamlessly connects information technology (IT) resources to clinical staff processes and defined procedures. This position is responsible for continuously researching the needs of the patient care staff team; then plans, designs, develops, communicates, implements, maintains and further evaluates clinical information system needs to provide efficient and easy to use IT solutions. Duties include analyzing complex clinical operations and structure processes to facilitate decision making regarding clinical systems; utilizing the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer applications; and ensuring information systems are consistent with professional standards of practice. The clinical informatics specialist is responsible for providing support and direction to clinical, medical staff, house staff, and other patient care areas. The clinical informatics specialist maintains accountability for the integrity and ongoing support of clinical information systems, including the electronic health record (EHR). The best measure of success is an ever increased end-user buy-in of available IT tools and increased performance in clinical core measures.
