I joined Baldwins Intellectual Property as a Patent Executive in August 2011.My role involved the drafting, filing and prosecution of patent specifications. I worked with local and overseas clients to secure protection for their chemical and biotechnological Intellectual Property.

BDG Synthesis specialise in the custom synthesis of those tricky to make deuterated and carbon-13 labelled derivatives of active pharmaceutical compounds and their metabolites. My role involved researching synthetic routes and methodologies on how to incorporate labels into the compounds, often having to synthesise a number of the starting reagents so as to incorporate the labels, and the synthesis and analysis of these compounds in the lab for New Zealand and overseas clients.

Research project on palladium catalysed carbonylations of aryl halides.

I worked in the quality control and manufacturing departments at Quintiles Scotland Ltd in Livingston, Scotland. I gained experience in GMP and GLP, ensuring that pharmaceutical products and Phase III clinical trial pharmaceutical products met pharmacopoeial and regulatory requirements. I also gained valuable experience in clean room and manufacturing procedures.
