Since my graduation with my Bachelor's degree in education in 1976 I have had a variety of different teaching experiences that have increased my teaching strengths. At the beginning of my career I spent one year of intensive training in a facility with emotionally challenged children. For the following two years I worked as a behavior therapist and group home parent. Since then I have taught at a community college in Oregon, a private school in Oklahoma and ten years as a teacher in the Nebo School District. While still working for the district I took a years sabbatical and traveled to New Zealand to study the best practices in teaching literacy, and learning the Reading Recovery approach to remediating below grade level readers. While still teaching full time I worked on and received my Master's degree in Education, specializing in math pedagogy. For the last four years I have owned and directed The Hobble Creek Learning Center. At the center i oversee and administrate a preschool program that offers developmentally appropriate learning experiences for 95 students ages 3-5. I employ 6 other teachers and we run three classrooms with four different sessions. We also tutor 10 -15 students per week to help students with academic fundamentals. Our goal is to help students gain critical thinking skills and confidence. We know that confident students are more capable of navigating the future. We also offer after school enrichment classes.Specialties: Early Childhood EducationBest teaching practices K-12Elementary Math PedagogyOffice managementAdministrative skillsSmall business administrationCommunity outreach
