About Stephanie Johnson
My life has been full of ups and downs, twists and turns, but I regret nothing. It's how I am as a person today, and I feel my experiences will prepare me for the future ups and downs, twists and turns. I grew up with the goal to be a veterinarian, but the barrier to entry was high and opportunities arose in the field of education. I started out my career as an advocate for the student, particularly the younger pre-k students. I felt it was important to be a positive influential force in children as their first experience in a school setting. As I moved up in the education field, I felt less of the connection to my students. I decided to go back to school for a profession that would allow me to have more contact and build relationships with people again. Physical therapy had all the right stuff - relationships, intellectual rigor, political clout to effect advocacy for the patients, and a foundation to affect the healthcare system in a positive way. So here we are today; years of studying, time away from family, practicals/exams, clinical rotations, and a few big tests at the end. It seems I caught the learning bug again. I have received my training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), and in the assessment/management of concussions. I am still working on publishing a case report with my mentor and friend Shannon Nordquist. I will be starting a 6-month certification program in July 2020 to become a Therapeutic Pain Specialist.
