Protection of Children Abusing Drugs (PChAD) Program May.13 - PresentHull Services, Calgary ABChild and Youth Care Counselor Level 3 A confined, court-ordered, residential program, in partnership with AHS Youth Addiction Services for youth under the age of 18 who are abusing drugs and/or alcohol. The program provides a structured and protective setting to begin detoxification while providing parents the opportunity to be involved in the process. The youth will receive assessments and further treatment recommendations when they discharge from the program. • Behavioural and crisis management in a locked program setting• Teach living and social skills by assessing skill deficits• Facilitate group counselling and1:1 counselling with youth including experiential activities, DBT skills training and utilizing motivational interviewing• Supervise, organize and implement daily activity programming• Provide support to parents, guardians and families, as well as the youth• Work closely with Alberta Health Services, Youth Addiction Service counsellors including consultation and collaboration regarding clients and developing treatment groups• Individual program planning based on the trans-theoretical change model, including providing resources and referrals • Write daily reports and discharge reports on the youth• Implement the NMT model into the PChAD program with support from Hull’s clinical NMT staff including training staff • Formal supervision and training of staff in the moment, monthly evaluations and annual evaluations• Liaison between front line and senior staff• Responsible for supervisory and administrative duties in absence of the Program Coordinator; • In absence of Program Coordinator/Program Director; makes decisions re: Program changes and individual cases.• Overall coordination of activities on shift and monitor systems

A residential 10-day, voluntary detox and stabilization program in partnership with AHS Youth Addiction Services for youth ages 12-19. Staff provides a safe and healthy detox, emotionally and physically. The population is very diverse including youth who are high risk, have a history trauma, neglect, abuse and those with concurrent disorders.•Attend to the physical safety, esteem and developmental needs of the client through ongoing assessment of the client•Individual program planning based on the trans-theoretical change model, including providing resources and referrals •Implement problem management and goal setting processes with client in a 1:1 or small group format using solution focused therapy and other appropriate counseling skills•Use preventative interventions and de-escalating skills in individual and group situations•Behaviour management (interventions and strategies) in a voluntary setting•Provide support to parents, guardians and families•Ongoing collaboration with AHS Youth Addiction Services staff to provide youth and family treatment, case coordination and program development•Research, develop and facilitate psycho-educational groups that have direct relevance to the client’s addiction issues including DBT and Trans-theoretical Change models•Supervise, organize and implement daily activity programming•Implement the NMT model into the Detox program with support from Hull’s clinical NMT staff including training staff•Write daily reports and discharge reports, which include summary of their stay, assessment of the clients and recommendations for further treatment•Formal supervision and training of staff on-the-floor, monthly evaluations and annual evaluations•Liaison between front line and senior staff.•In absence of Program Coordinator/Program Director; makes decisions re: Program changes and individual cases as well as supervisory and administrative duties•Overall coordination of activities on shift and monitor systems

A trauma informed, attachment based residential program serving children between the ages of 6-12. These children enter the program due to extreme maladaptive behaviours such as aggression, attachment issues and other unsafe behaviours generally due to early childhood trauma. The program uses the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT), which enables the program to provide an environment with attuned, attentive and responsive caregivers. • Structure and facilitate the therapeutic process appropriate for each client (children & parents) appropriate for developmental age and based on the client’s brain map.• Develop and run groups and 1:1 counselling with children that have an NMT focus• Integrate knowledge of the impact of trauma on psychological functioning into the client’s treatment.• Collaborate with supervisor and keyworkers regarding client’s treatment plan.• Write interpretive summaries of clients.• Participate in case team meetings, meetings with guardians, psychiatrist and other professionals. • Assist in collecting data for NMT metric
