In this role I managed complex research projects with implementation sites across the world including developing, implementing and evaluating pilot projects in a variety of settings that could then be rolled out on a larger scale.The role also had a strong education focus, conducting research skills workshops to improve the research capacity of young researchers in Africa.In 2014 one of my projects was awarded the CRC association Excellence in Innovation award. This award recognises outstanding examples of research translation.

Brien Holden Vision Institute My role centred around business implementation, operations and process improvement of businesses throughout the world in both an internal and external consulting role.This involved analysis initial assessment to identify strengths and weaknesses, then the development of an implementation plan to build on strengths and address areas of concern through process improvement, training and support in a locally appropriate manner.In this role I also managed a process standardisation project across over 400 sites throughout the world. The project developed standard operational processes, then developed and implemented training packages that helped project managers gain the skills and confidence required to implement these changes.Due to the international aspect to the work, I developed strong stakeholder management skills, particularly working with culturally and linguistically diverse groups.

Managed a variety of infrastructure development, and organisational change projects with complex stakeholders in a variety of countries across the world including:The development of a training pathway for ophthalmologists in Moldova.The project involved working with government, university and other international stakeholders to develop a post graduation training programme for eye doctors.

As an Education Project Development Officer I was involved in the development and delivery of educational materials. In this time, I travelled extensively throughout the world, training and mentoring staff in clinical practice including developing processes for small practices primarily in Sri Lanka and the Solomon Islands. Additionally I have designed and implemented workplace level courses in both clinical and non-clinical aspects of practice and was the primary author for the following courses:• Primary Eyecare Manual – Community Level• Primary Eyecare Course – Midlevel • Optical Assistant’s course

I was an owner partner in a busy Optometry practise based in Brisbane (Eyewear by Design). Working in a busy practice meant I needed to juggle many competing priorities. We had many walk in appointments necessitating a flexible working approach to each day, juggling consulting duties with management responsibilities.My duties also included end of month reporting, invoices, wages and other basic accounting practices, including GST and BAS statements. I have trained new staff in both general optics, and our specific working practices. In 2006 I wrote a practice manual to formalise and streamline our operating procedures. In May 2008 we converted our private practice to a Specsavers franchise. During this time, I was able to develop my change management skills. The processes we implemented during this time were new to the staff, and a large part of my role during this time was supporting and encouraging my staff to embrace this change.
