the harris project is the only national non-profit focused on the prevention and treatment of co-occurring disorders (COD) in teens and young adults. COD is the combination of one or more mental health challenges and substance misuse/addiction. We educate about the critical need for co-occurring capable care, i.e. integrated treatment; empower our youth to make positive decisions through an understanding of paths to substance misuse/addiction (including mental health challenges, sports injury, wisdom tooth removal, brain changes caused by use); and, support the creation of best practices in early identification/intervention. Our CODA movement (Co-Occurring Disorders Awareness) is a youth-led effort to create a community culture built on connection, caring and compassion, as well as the importance of knowing who to link to if concerned about oneself or a friend #CODAconnects #BeTheLink

COD is the combination of one or more mental health challenges and substance misuse and/or addiction. With 10.2 million Americans meeting the criteria for a clinical diagnosis of COD, and research suggesting that 70% of all of those misusing and/or addicted to substances have co-occurring mental health challenges, the harris project is determined to bringing co-occurring disorders: out of the shadows and into the light.
