  • City Of Calgary
    Senior Innovation Designer
City Of Calgary Apr 2019 - Aug 2022
    Calgary, Canada Area
I am the Design Lead on our team, evolving The Innovation Lab team's design methodologies in business, social, and civic innovation to serve as an enterprise capability. Through my leadership of our strategic direction, The Innovation Lab team has more than doubled in size and demand for our services continues to outstrip supply in the corporation. I lead teams through large, cross-corporate initiatives and provide strategic counsel to our clients: Project Managers, Managers, Directors, General Managers (GMs) and Members of Council over the duration of those projects to advance innovation practices across the Corporation. I design and execute research activities with a team to answer business questions. We leverage qualitative and quantitative methods (observation, interviews, journals, ethnography, surveys, etc.) for internal clients ranging from Community Services to the Water Utility. I work alongside clients from initial project intake through planning, engagement, ideation, prototyping, and scale to launch using human-centered design and systemic design - communicating findings through persuasive, compelling written reports and presentations for diverse stakeholders.

As a Service Designer, I also developed several of those programs and services through prototyping to scale across distributed library locations, departments, and teams. I co-led the design and delivery of professional learning for 400+ library staff to support a culture transformation project. I also mentored and built capacity for human-centered design and design research among colleagues and a direct report.
  • Telus Spark, The New Science Centre

Telus Spark, The New Science Centre Mar 2014 - Jul 2016
    Calgary, Alberta
I led the creation of the adult professional learning portfolio at TELUS Spark, which resulted in a new revenue stream and the recognition of TELUS Spark as a preferred professional learning provider by four Alberta school boards. This work included, leading the co-design of a new, one-year, immersive professional learning program for educators and educational leaders called SHIFT Lab - designed to help educators better meet the needs of their 21st Century learners. In addition, I conducted competitive market analysis and diversified program revenue through an à la carte professional learning offering. Then I coordinated a team of over 30 TELUS Spark staff from seven departments to develop and co-facilitate those workshops for educators, library staff, parks staff, and business leaders. I successfully managed a six-figure annual budget, and made adjustments through a shifting financial landscape.

I curated the themes and led teams of close to 30 staff and volunteers to deliver these events. I cultivated relationships with over 44 external partners to bring subject matter expertise to the programming TELUS Spark offered their visitors, while also helping those partners achieve their goals. I made frequent appearances on morning news programs, on multiple TV stations and radio programs to promote the special programming.
