Originally, I began my education to help children like my younger brother and sister who have autism, since I began, I have grown to truly love my profession and the children I help every day. I chose speech therapy because I have a deep passion for patient advocacy and the Autism community. Beyond my university coursework, I have branched into the area of medical feeding and swallowing. I love how each child and family is different and requires a different approach and is a different puzzle to piece together. I enjoy that research and approaches are ever changing and are available for me to try so I can help as many families have the best quality of care and life possible. I’ve had the privilege of working in many different settings including pediatric home health, skilled-nursing, private practice autism clinic. One of the best parts of home health is being able to work directly with the family in their own environment for the best functional gains. Being in the home environment provides an insight and opportunity to therapy that no other field has access too.I received my graduate degree in speech pathology from TTUHSC in May 2018. Since then, I have completed my fellowship year in skilled nursing, worked in pediatric home health, and private practice. My graduate studies included a school district, brain injury clinic, university clinic, and acute care setting. Since graduating and completing my fellowship I have taken numerous continuing education hours in the areas of pediatric feeding and swallowing including: VitalStim DINES, tracheostomy and ventilator care, breastfeeding, avoidant, restricted, and, picky eaters, orofacial myology, feeding and swallowing for the down syndrome population. I have also completed additional education in PROMPT tactile cue therapy and Oral Placement Therapy for treatment of childhood apraxia of speech. I primarily work with medically complex infants to adulthood and sensory feeding.
