I directed all aspects of the Parent Training Institute (PTI), including planning, implementation, evaluation, and training. The PTI is a program within DPH that improves child and family outcomes by providing evidence-based parenting interventions to caregivers of young children. Programs that I implemented included Triple P Parenting, the Incredible Years, and Supporting Father Involvement (SFI). In addition, I provided technical assistance and implementation support to practitioners of other evidence-based programs including 123 Magic, Strengthening Families, and Seeking Safety. Based on these experiences, I designed two research projects housed within the PTI and served as the principal investigator: Trauma-Informed Evidence-Based Parenting Study (March 2016-June 2018)This multi-county qualitative study, in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and the Trauma Transformed Initiative (http://www.t2bayarea.org/), examined the strategies that practitioners of evidence-based parenting programs use to ensure that the services they delivery are trauma-informed and culturally appropriate. The methods included an initial series of focus groups with parenting practitioners, followed by validation of findings through input from diverse caregiver groups.San Francisco Parenting Practices Effectiveness Study (Dec 2010-June 2018)This quantitative study examined factors influencing parenting, parental stress, and child mental health outcomes in families receiving publicly-funded parent training classes.

Conducted and disseminated effectiveness and other evaluation studies for the Child, Youth and Family (CYF) Section of Community Behavioral Health Services. Provided consultation to community programs on screening, assessment, evidence-based practice implementation, and outcome evaluation.

Designed and implemented contract-funded behavioral health epidemiology and service research. Primary studies included the following: Evidence-based interventions for trauma-exposed youth in out of-home treatment facilities Evaluation of Florida’s Community-Based Care Initiative (Child Welfare) “Parent Connectors”: A parent-to-parent support program Adolescent Inpatient Readmission Study

Longitudinal Studies of Child Abuse and Neglect (LongSCAN) is a 20-year multi-site study investigating the epidemiology of child maltreatment. Responsibilities included planning and executing independent research projects, mentoring Master’s-level research assistants, and collaborating on publications, presentations, and other aspects of the research program. Responsibilities as the Project Coordinator included selection and training of interviewers, coders, and assistant coordinators, tracking of 330 participants, preparation of yearly reviews for institutional review board approval, monthly abstraction of child maltreatment records, and participation in monthly conference calls with coordinators of other sites.
