As one of the activities from Stichting Intercultureel Vrouwencentrum Enschede, I volunteer in the “language cafe", supporting international women to improve their Dutch. These meetings happen twice a week, the group size can vary from a couple to approx. 10 women.

Soundinsight is a start-up company that develops SonoCat and the SonoCat Software which measures the sound absorption coefficient in-situ, sound intensity in 3D and sound power.In this small company I was doing scientific and technical activities : SonoCat calibration, testing, validation, support client; and less technical, more marketing activities like : popularising scientific concepts to practical applications on the website, brochures, user manual, presenting the product in conferences.

My role was divided in 3 main tasks: research and supervision, teaching, administrative work.My research focused on the perception of sound reproduction. I supervised PhD and master students and loved working with them on research projects.I built and taught different modules related to acoustics, psychoacoustics, sound perception and 3D sound in undergraduate and postgraduate level.As administrative tasks, convening the Master of Arts in Sonic Arts and liaison officer for Queen’s Big Band were two of them.

My post-doc took place in a research project using virtual reality in a new therapy for tinnitus relieve. In a virtual environment patients used tinnitus avatars to learn how to live with their own tinnitus. The first step was to help patients define and create their avatars. We designed a procedure for tinnitus characterization and evaluated it on a hundred patients.

My PhD was a collaboration between Orange Labs, the National Institute of Applied Science (INSA) and the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music (IRCAM). Objective and perceptive characterisation of 3D sound reproduction systems. I worked on Higher Order Ambisonics recording devices, evaluating some criteria of spatial quality. These devices were acoustically measured. Data were used to simulate the reproduced physical sound field and listening experiments were performed to sketch a "perceived sound field". A predictive model was applied to compare perceptive and objective results.

I worked on two main projects evaluating the performance of sound systems in situ, designing and carrying out perceptual experiments.- Investigation and comparison of two methods measuring the intelligibility in train station following the EN60849 norm. Carrying out and analysis of perceptual tests on twenty listeners in-situ using two sound systems. - Evaluation of the suitability of using a sound signal bound to reduce the discomfort caused by trains passing by the station at high speed and without stop. Carrying out and analysis of questionnaires filled by travellers.

I studied and designed a test platform for radio frequency generator; trained the employees on high-frequency measurement techniques and wrote a user guide.
