Louis Dreyfus is a worldwide commodities company and a player in many markets. I am the Quality Manager for their 100 million gal per year ethanol plant. I lead the laboratory of technicians at the facility and am responsible for the quality of all products bound for the U.S. and abroad. In addition, I troubleshoot and optimize plant fermentation including data analysis using JMP and am part of a team who evaluate new technologies. I am also responsible for the Food Safety Modernization Act implementation at my facility.

Novozymes is an industrial enzyme producer. At Novozymes, I work as a scientist who interfaces between Novozymes and customers in the starch based ethanol industry. I specialize in data analysis using JMP for ethanol plant process optimization and resolution of technical problems in addition to enzyme applications and trials. I have experience with 1.5/2G applications and provide guidance for customer R&D test designs and process SOPs. One of my favorite things about this position is going into an ethanol plant, getting my hands dirty and helping the process run better.Novozymes was a wonderful place to work. I've never met a team that was so intelligent, supportive and who truly care about each other. It was heartbreaking to leave such a place but due to a family illness, I needed a position where I wasn't traveling as often.

Fiberight is a cellulosic ethanol development company specializing in waste to ethanol especially municipal solid waste (MSW). At Fiberight, I was a scientific face both in the laboratory and outside the company. In the lab, I lead a team of technicians. I designed, developed and analyzed the results of R&D experiments which optimized the hydrolysis and fermentation of MSW, various industrial food wastes and waste seed corn using a range of pretreatments. I also analyzed plant production data for industrial ethanol production from some of the above mentioned waste feedstocks in addition to writing the plant processing SOPs and modifying plant run parameters for ethanol production optimization. Outside of the lab, I interfaced between Fiberight and major technology suppliers, engineers and various foreign delegations. I spoke on Fiberight's behalf at conferences like IFEW and was invited to speak in Washington DC to the Department of Energy. I wrote the scientific portion of a USDA loan guarantee which was granted to Fiberight. I also started ISO 9000 certification and completed several OSHA tasks. Working for Fiberight was an amazing experience, I was incredibly sad when R&D moved from Iowa to Virginia and I was not able to follow.
