• Lead recruitment functional team. • Conceptualize and implement a three year strategy to engage high school students in leadership development and social justice programming. Have engaged with over 100 students, on-track to 300 by the end of school year 2018-2019.•Provide chief of staff support to the Executive Director, including strategic planning and organizational management.• Serve on the organizational leadership teams to develop the annual budget and organizational structure; set organization priorities; create and manage ongoing performance management routines; lead ongoing progress monitoring; and manage local recruitment staff.• Led creation of regional talent philosophy. This included managing a team-wide collaborative process to align policies and processes for recruitment, hiring, onboarding, ongoing learning, performance management, and staff transitions.

•Conceptualized and led work to define and build an innovation ecosystem in Hawaii and develop an agenda that addresses the implications for education. This included convening local entrepreneurs, funders, educators, and business leaders to identify what it would take for young innovators to stay in Hawaii and thrive. •Co-created the Moonshot Lab Hawaii program and co-managed implementation of a year 1 prototype with 5 schools, 200 students, and over 30 educators. At the end of school year 2017-2018, students had generated 12 prototype solutions to tackle the challenges in their communities (awareness and support for restoring native endangered plants; Ala Wai canal clean up; a model for cultural grounding in a hotel restaurant; and furthering the education mission of Hokulea). •Co-led and facilitated the development of the Aloha + Challenge green workforce and education goals under contract with Hawaii Green Growth. •Developed and managed all business operations, from startup phase. Included organization mission, vision, values, human resources policies and processes, and fundraising strategy (successfully fundraised nearly $500,000 in year one operating funds).•Active participant in the third cohort of Hawaii Investment Ready.

•Led policy, strategic planning, and innovation work ranging from serving as the HIDOE federal liaison to providing legislative support/testimony and supporting strategic planning efforts. •Conceptualized and led the Future Ready Learning Initiative – a strategy to expand teaching and learning via technology integration. Roughly 50 schools have received targeted support to develop their vision and implementation plans and 400 teachers have received training to become pillars of expertise in their communities. •Established a newly created branch within HIDOE. Included developing a strategic vision; defining and establishing positions; defining and managing the budget; and putting in place clear inter- and intra-office routines.

•Managed implementation of a state level performance management structure between offices and with the state superintendent. •Conceptualized and led the $9.7 million Access Learning Pilot Project. This two-year pilot project focused on deploying a 1:1 device and digital curriculum strategy in schools across the state. Final evaluation available here: http://goo.gl/FMrkfJ. •Managed and provided strategic direction for four assurance areas, composed of 10 projects, in the state’s Race to the Top grant. Projects included implementation of: Response to Intervention (RtI), the Common Core State Standards, STEM education, assessments, formative instruction/assessment literacy, end of course exams, the data teams process, new college and career ready diploma requirements, school network upgrades, and network infrastructure improvements. Projects in my portfolio were the first to have high-risk status lifted by USDE, based on clear and compelling evidence of quality implementation.•Co-authored the state’s initial and renewal applications for ESEA flexibility and successfully shepherded the application from draft, through peer review, to final approval.•Served as the state’s representative on various national workgroups, including Achieve, Inc.’s Competency Based Education workgroup and USDE’s Race to the Top Sustainability Workgroup.•Supported the development and deployment of large-scale internal and external communications campaigns.•Built and maintained strategic external partnerships to support communication and implementation efforts.

•Led and managed the Common Core State Standards Initiative, including developing a communications strategy, building and maintaining partnerships with external stakeholders, serving as a public ambassador on behalf of NGA, and general project management.•Led portfolios on adolescent literacy and school choice, including a large-scale technical assistance project on state strategies to support high quality charter school policies. This project led to large-scale revisions of charter school laws and regulations in Hawaii and Delaware, as well as a business partnership initiative in Georgia.•Co-led two portfolios of work on competency based education and state strategies to support learning outside of the school day. •Provided technical assistance to governors’ education policy advisors on issues such as standards and assessments, school choice, adolescent literacy, expanded learning opportunities, and resource reallocation.•Researched and wrote policy publications for governors and their key policy staff. Written products ranged from technical assistance memos to legislative language, policy briefs, and governor’s guides.•Represented NGA on the Afterschool Technical Assistance Collaborative, the Illustrative Math Project, the Math Common Core Coalition, and a coalition of organizations focused on supporting implementation of the Common Core State Standards for English language arts.•Represented NGA at external meetings and presentations on the Common Core State Standards, school choice, adolescent literacy, competency-based education, and expanded learning opportunities.

•Conducted document review and research for committee reports, hearings, legislation, and press releases. Specifically, reviewed documents and provided evidence analysis pertaining to the Crandall Canyon Mine cave-in, student loan abuses between private lenders and universities, and the effectiveness of OSHA follow up to companies with repeated severe workplace injuries. •Researched policy initiatives, assisted in the execution of hearings, executive sessions, press conferences, and other events on behalf of Senator Ted Kennedy and other senators who served on the committee.
