Stephanie Smart - creating garments using paper & thread, memory & story.Stephanie's work speaks of both the intimate and the communal nature of clothes over time. She's interested in how garments link both with personal memory and with heritage and community.Currently she's working on The Regency Wardrobe collection. After conducting research as artist-in-residence at the Regency Town House, Hove the collection is due to be exhibited August 29th - October 26th 2021 at Firle Place, Firle, East Sussex. The collection consists of 11 life size garments, plus accessories and shoes, made entirely from paper and thread. Stephanie has worked closely with town house volunteers in order to incorporate local social history and period research into the design of each piece and has developed unique affects using paper and thread. In order to research Regency art, design and fashion she has also worked with individuals at the storage facilities of public and private fashion collections and with National institutions including: The Royal Pavilion Brighton, The National Maritime Museum Greenwich, The National Trusts’ Fashion Collection at Killerton House, The Army Museum London, Chertsey Museum, Worthing Museum, Bath Fashion Museum and The Fan Museum Greenwich. Please note - The Regency Wardrobe collection was due to be exhibited to the public in May 2020. Due to Coronavirus the collection is being expanded and will now be shown in 2021. After the whole collection has been shown at the magnificent Firle Place parts of it will be shown at Chertsey Museum in the November of 2021 and Worthing Museum early 2022.
