My studies at Grand Valley State focused heavily on macro-level social work, to include public policy, grant writing, examination of systems-level influences of structural oppression, and qualitative social research. My primary career goal is to work within the field of public policy to bring about greater social equity and economic justice for all individuals.

As a master of social work intern at NHA I prepared and submitted grant applications for K-8 arts programs and school garden projects. I, along with a fellow MSW intern, developed a Positive Behavior Replacement mini-curriculum for NHA educators at 80+ schools in 9 states. I helped develop a proposal to implement a comprehensive, school-wide social-emotional learning program in all NHA schools.

Landstuhl (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)

Provided reader's advisory for library patrons; developed and presented weekly story time events for toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children; performed all circulation desk duties; managed the facility programming calendar and the periodicals catalog.

Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl Germany

Visited and talked with Wounded Warriors recovering at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. Brought personal care items, books, magazines, and DVDs to Wounded Warriors who sustained serious injuries during service in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Met with Service Members from all branches of the U.S. military and Coalition troops from Sub-Saharan Africa.

Mannheim Area, Germany

Taught 9th grade Language Arts, 12th grade American Government, Psychology, and Street Law. Developed lesson plans and activities for high school students at Mannheim High School. Assessed all student work and reported grades at the end of each semester. The school, and the entire U.S. Army installation in Mannheim are now closed.
