When I was about 9 years old, I ran out of the doctor's office when they wanted to give me a penicillin injection. Now, I help support pediatric patients in similar situations and try to decrease their distress to prevent the running reaction. I do have two good "runner" stories to share!I have lived in the incredibly picturesque state of Utah my entire life. I am learning to better appreciate the beautiful mountains of our valley now that I see it from the perspective thanks to the many transplants to Utah on our child life team from other parts of the country.As a supervisor, I am enjoying putting into practice the many skills I learned from my mentors over my 32-year career. I recently received a letter from my most influential mentor that expressed how impressed she was with the work I had done as a student and professional to be able to be at this point in my career. I enjoy learning from those on my team and being able to now support and mentor them in their roles. Advocating for pediatric and adolescent patients in the areas of pain management, emotional safety and consistency of psychosocial care across the healthcare system is my primary purpose as a child life specialist and leader in this field.
