Nsf Grfp Fellow/ Phd StudentUniversity Of Houston Aug 2019 - Jan 2024Petrologic characterization of martian meteorites NWA 2046 and NWA 6162 • Created and implemented combined in-situ and bulk rock petrologic and geochemical study of two martian meteorites previously hypothesized to originate from the same crater on Mars• Imaged samples using SEM at NASA Johnson Space Center. Analyzed major, minor and trace elements, in-situ using EMPA at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, and LA-ICP-MS at the University of Houston • Analyzed major, minor trace elements in bulk rock powders utilizing University of Houston QQQ-ICP-MS• Concluded that analyzed specimens had different thermal histories, possibly linked to different group of martian meteorites (ongoing) -
Teaching AssistantUniversity Of Houston Aug 2017 - May 2022• Assisted ~40 students within 2 laboratory sections with weekly lab assignments covering topics in igneous and metamorphic petrology and petrography• Tutored students one on one and in small groups in Geoscience Learning Center -
Masters Graduate Research AssistantUniversity Of Houston Sep 2017 - Aug 2019Heterogeneity of the Tissint martian meteorite strewn-field Supervisor: Dr. Tom Lapen• Reinterpreted two previously analyzed crystallization ages from Tissint fragments as possibly distinct basaltic lava flows from Mars, resulting in new understanding of launch-paired systematics of craters• Designed and conducted isotopic geochemical study on 8 pieces of meteorite from Tissint strewn-field to determine provenance heterogeneity of meteorites • Utilized ICP-MS, MC-ICPMS, TIMS to measure 3 radiogenic isotopes systems and ~30 elements of interest (U-Pb, Rb-Sr, Lu-Hf, HSE’s, REE’s) chemically extracted from martian meteorites• Confirmed the meteorite strewn-field was homogenous and that no exogeneous material from Mars contaminated martian meteorite samples, disproving previously unsupported theory• Published findings in Geochimica et Cosmochimica, used results to secure funding through the highly competitive NSF GRFP to investigate other martian meteorite samples associated with the same source crater -
Undergraduate Research AssistantThe University Of Texas At Austin Nov 2014 - Aug 2017U-Pb dating of the first appearance of land animals Supervisor: Dr. Elizabeth Catlos• Researched, developed, and implemented novel mini-sonicator zircon grain separation method for challenging tuffaceous sandstones and bentonites throughout UK that bracketed significant fossils that mark the initial land colonization of animals • Extracted and dated zircon grains from cohesive K-bentonites using HR-LA-ICP-MS at The University of Texas at Austin• Published first U-Pb age of the first land-breathing animal, ~14 million years younger than previously thought and confirmed these findings in additional ash horizons -
