Researcher Engagement & Data Group Lead for Advanced Research Computing (or BEAR), University of Birmingham. My current role involves engaging with researchers to ensure that they are aware of all the advanced computing facilities available to them and helping with their research data management, which often involves concerns around sensitive data. In response to researcher's needs, I am currently expanding the delivery of our training workshops around using our HPC facility, and programming workshops based on the Carpentries. I'm keen to share our experience of engaging with researchers by presenting at conferences and to groups, most recently talking at the Jisc Digital Research Community Group on HPC: Reaching out to researchers and building skills (June 2023). I established and lead the BEAR Champions group, a voluntary team of researchers who help spread the word about BEAR in their area and the Digital Research Conversations, a series of events bringing UoB researchers together to discuss data management related topics.Previously a researcher in marine cell biology, I studied for my PhD at the University of Birmingham and Marine Biological Association of the UK (MBA) and am a Professional Member of the MBA. My research continued during a post-doc at the University of Birmingham (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8791-0466) before taking a career break to look after my children, during which I volunteered for the NCT (National Childbirth Trust) in various roles.
