I am a doctorally prepared nurse educator specializing in Maternity nursing and an Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultant. I teach at Northern Illinois University as an Assistant Professor in their highly ranked Bachelor of Science prelicensure nursing program.I have been recognized numerous times for my exceptional teaching. I won the Excellence in Undergraduate Instruction Award at NIU in 2022 and the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) Nurse Educator Fellowship award in 2023. I am committed to always teaching with kindness, equity, and inclusion.My research program centers on breastfeeding and human milk feeding education with a focus on nursing education and equitable maternity care. My professional practice experience in Labor & Delivery and with lactating parents provides valuable insight into my research to improve health outcomes.I am committed to active service at NIU and the greater community. I am the Student Nurses Organization (SNO) Faculty Advisor and active member of the Undergraduate Curriculum and Evaluation Committee, amongst other committees. I am also the Treasurer of the Beta Omega Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

I am proficient in the Professional Nursing course and in the Childbearing Family didactic and clinical course. Part of my Faculty Advisor role involves working with the elected Senior Representatives to plan and carry out the senior nursing student activities, such as the Professional Nursing Pinning Ceremony each semester.I am the Course Facilitator (formally Course Coordinator) for the 3rd Track Obstetrics courses. I coordinate with the instructors of the OB clinical courses and the didactic OB course I teach to align content and assignments. Other responsibilities include triage of clinical and student issues and communication with the Undergraduate Director.My experience at NIU with exemplary teaching and active service has put me in a valuable position to now focus on scholarship and further develop my program of research.In Spring 2022 I won the Excellence in Undergraduate Instruction Award at NIU. -

I assist mothers and babies with breastfeeding in the inpatient and outpatient settings . I am the Lead Lactation Consultant and manage the 2 current locations of the Breastfeeding Resource Center (BRC).
