A project-oriented course designed to give the student exposure to laboratory research through a series of five-week modules. During this five-week introductory module, the students will learn the basics of expression, isolation, and characterization of recombinant proteins in E. coli using SDS-PAGE and Western blotting. In the first half of the course, students work initially with one recombinant DNA construct and then are given a second construct to use to identify the protein expressed.

Conducted research in Dr. Jason Lanman's Lab where I used newly developed methods in electron microscope tomography to reconstruct three-dimensional images of cells to determine the spatial position of these components in the cell at molecular resolution.Whole-cell EM Tomography on Hepatitis C virus infected liver cancer cells.

Conducted research in Dr. Jeffrey D. Karpicke's Cognition and Learning Laboratory where I aimed at understanding fundamental processes of human learning and memory. The studies involved brief sessions lasting about 30-60 minutes. In an initial session, children used different learning strategies while they read brief passages about science topics. Some of the studies involved a follow-up session one week later, in which children answered questions about ideas and concepts from the passages. The purpose of the research was to identify the strategies that produced the best long-term learning.
