About Stephanie Carter

I created The Verse for those of us who know the second half of life is where sh*t gets good. Really good. ▷▷▷The Verse is a media platform designed and delivered by grown-ups, for grown-ups. We’re built on real talk; action-ready, beyond-the-masses tips, and original ideas.▷▷▷As editor-in-chief, I curate and create honest stories that inform and inspire. No fluff. Zero bullsh*t. ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆ “Reading The Verse is very inspirational to me. Stephanie Carter perfectly curates passages, tips and short-form interviews that entertain and interrupt our “busy brains” which is the key to opening up our minds to new possibilities" ▹John Kim, Managing Director, General Catalyst ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆ 🔵 My Why: When I realized at age 50 that I could change my career - something so fundamental to my identity- a world of possibilities opened up. The reality? No one was talking to people our age about the opportunities to reimagine their second half. In fact, no one was talking to us at all. I wanted to change that.🔵 My Mission: Empower and inspire action-oriented, 40+-year-olds to enthusiastically seize their second half. It’s only halftime and we decide how we want to play and win. There is no reason to spend the next years doing x when y is right there waiting for us.🔵 My Past: I was formerly a General Partner of ABS Capital Partners, a growth equity firm. A sometimes even bigger job I still do: being the wife of former Secretary of Defense, Ash Carter. In support of the Department of Defense, I have traveled the globe advocating for military families and veterans. For this work I was awarded the “Distinguished Public Service Award” by the Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2017. And that felt like a pretty big deal.In my 25-year tenure at ABS, I was responsible for raising $1.6B for the firm’s funds and creating its Investor Relations function, which I oversaw until my retirement from the firm in May 2019. ➝ Now, I’m looking to do something really exciting.🤍Get Versed: theversemedia.com🤍»Weekly inspiration in your inbox. »We’re serving up a playbook for your second half full of fresh, BS-free ideas and real talk.

Partner in charge of all fundraising and prospecting, investor relations, branding and marketing, which includes online and in-person events tailored for our executives, directors and investors. Also, oversees the investment research function. Some things I am proud of:- This role was created for me and I have consistently added to it.- Becoming a partner in 2001- Every fund we have closed and every success we have delivered for our investors- Built a network in over two decades that includes: leading investors, growth company executives, peers and the best service providers. This puts me within a phone call of the best answers for my firm. - Having been involved in the decision to back over 65 growth companies, these founders continually inspire me.- In 2000, we were one of the first firms to host an Executive Summit and we have continued to keep it relevant, thought-provoking and FUN for the executives of our companies. (My personal favorite was interviewing the great Tom Izzo on what makes a winning basketball program.)- I started our investment research function in 2011— defining the role, recruiting and managing our talented research associates, and helping to deliver actionable insights to our investing partners. A point of pride was when both our associates were recognized as Business Librarians of the Year by their trade association.- I dreamed up our annual Directors Summit to strengthen our network of independent directors and made it happen—8 times.- Led multiple branding efforts and brought best insights from all sectors to keepABS’ market position defined, current and effective in a dynamic market
