I'm passionate about equity in education, inclusion for all students, and teacher support through strong systems. As a previous educator, I was devoted to creating equitable and inclusive spaces for students in order to see them thrive. In my building, I was a part of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee where we approach critical conversations around race, student safety, and creating a staff culture of inclusion. As a teacher of color, I valued representation through curriculum that is taught and experiences that are offered for our students. While all those elements are still true, I am now spreading my impact by working as the Director of Operations for a non-profit organization that focuses on anti-ableism and anti-racism by partnering with schools across the nation to eliminate the opportunity gap for historically marginalized students. I received my Master's Degree in Teaching from Western Washington University in the Woodring College of Education. I'm extremely passionate about using education as a means to serve students socially, emotionally, and academically. I graduated from Western Washington University in December of 2016 with a degree in English Literature with an emphasis in education while also receiving my endorsement in English Language Learners (ELL), now considered Multilingual Learners (ML). I was honored to spend a summer in Querétaro, Mexico to learn SIOP strategies, create and implement newcomer English lessons, and spend time in a culture that I hold closely to my heart. I have a desire to see MLs in my own classroom thrive and reach their full potential.
