Myself and two other amazing women launched a closed-loop sustainable kids' clothing membership based in the Hudson Valley and NYC. We thought it was crazy that families spend $1,000 per year per kid to buy clothes that will be outgrown or fall apart within the season. Unlike any other rental subscriptions, Cahoots gave kids’ clothing multiple lives through sharing and artful repair. By simply doubling the number of times we wear clothes, experts say we can reduce our GHG footprint of an item by an estimated 44% (Ellen MacArthur Foundation, 2017) because we can avoid buying newly manufactured clothing and we can greatly reduce the amount of clothing going to landfill. Instead of spending money on clothes that are throwaway or that they will grow out of quickly, families can invest their clothing dollars towards a zero-waste community that shares and rescues clothes. Cahoots' mission was to make vintage and artfully repaired clothes that are functional, stand the test of time, and make a statement.
