Stephanie Andersen is an experienced writing professor with a demonstrated history of working with diverse student bodies in the higher education industry. She is skilled in teaching online, Curriculum Design, Adult Education, Distance Learning, Teaching, Research, and Writing, with an MFA focused in Creative Nonfiction from University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Andersen partnered to create Reading Area Community College’s Creative Writing program, one of the college’s first programs with an option to complete entirely online. In both virtual and on-campus classrooms, she has had the pleasure of working with students from all walks of life—elementary students, high school students, and community college students, including developmental, Honors, and non-traditional students. From these wonderfully diverse groups, she has learned the importance of engaging students where they are, nurturing their personal relationship with curriculum. Students have regularly said that her classroom is not just lively and engaging but life-changing. She is a three-time Pushcart nominee and has been listed twice in Best American Essays series as Notable. Her work has appeared in Wilma! Women's Magazine; Brain, Child Magazine; Choice: True Stories of Birth, Contraception, Infertility, Adoption, Single Parenthood, & Abortion; Stoneboat Literary; The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, The Dallas Morning News, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Australia's Sydney Morning Herald, and Hippocampus Magazine. She hosts “This Is Womanhood,” a photo and flash essay series dedicated to honoring the evolving perception of womanhood. Her memoir In Her Place, speaks boldly to what it means to be a woman in the modern world, how motherhood shapes that identity and how it does not. She is a mother of three beautiful daughters, a runner, a yogi, a bird lover, and a passionate advocate of environmental and social justice.
