I am the first librarian at Yeshiva University directly responsible for e-reserves (undergraduate and graduates studies). I have used the responsibilities required for my position to explore issues such as copyright, user experience, patron privacy and security and information architecture. I have also refined the quality of citation work per MLA standards, and user experience best practices. An added flourish has been the addition of HTML and Hebrew where appropriate. This past year, Pollack Library was reconfigured into an information commons. This metamorphosis has sparked great interest among library staff, myself included. Under our new library director, Prof. Paul Glassman, we are exploring how we can become an emerging academic nucleus for both students and faculty. I look forward with enthusiasm to the opportunities new leadership will present, including the support of innovative service to near and distant users.♠♠Chief responsibilities: ♦Member: ♦Strategic Plan Ctte: Institutional Repositories (Sept 2016--); ♦YU Student Library Research Award Ctte (Jul 2017--); ♦YU Personal Librarian (Jul 2017--)♦Create and maintain collection of over 11,520+ electronic reserve documents (deep links, PDFs, multi-media) connected to 630+ course pages for 320 faculty (70 departments) of Yeshiva University, including graduate and Hebrew studies, using Springshare's E-Reserves system in compliance of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. ♦Select and apply basic information technology and information management using open-source and proprietary programs. ♦Liaise with both faculty and student to facilitate use of this vital and well-appreciated library service. ♦Manage multiple requests from varied sources applying best practices (including interpersonal communication, cross-cultural communication and tact).♦ Identify and recommend innovations/initiatives for new information commons ♦Implement migration of Docutek E-res database to Springshare's platform.

Establish, promote, advise and maintain institutional repository. Counsel library community (faculty & students) in matters of open access, copyright protocol, and social media optimization for scholarly communication. Repository includes academic materials (pre- and post-print peer-reviewed articles, research activities, conference presentations and online presentations.)

I have been a member of The New York Library Club since I was a library school student at Pratt Institute. I joined at the urging of Dean Seoud Matta, who enforced upon us the importance of being involved professionally from our first semester. One of the most valuable lessons I learned from interacting with librarians from all sectors has been the implementation of values and personal integrity required to be a successful information specialist. Moreover, I've became acquainted with standards of courtesy as well as that of sharing and trust. Through serving on the board, I learned to organize my thoughts and present them to others in a succinct and articulate fashion. I've enjoyed planning events, reaching out to other library students and institutions, and ultimately mentoring and advising Pratt SILS students. As vice-president, and then president, I committed myself to the survival of the club (founded in 1886 by Melvil Dewey). Mentor 2013-2014 / 2014-2015 / 2015-2016.Focus: career advice ; succession planning ; leadership training ; employment seeking, general professional enhancementAs a mentor of ACRL/NY, I have guided and supported young information professionals in their quest to become polished professionals in the field. Some have been library students, struggling with classes as well as earning a living. Others have graduated, but have not landed fulltime positions. As emotionally demanding as this pro bono work has been for me, the rewards have been phenomenal. For every challenge has come some level of success. In most cases, mentees do find employment in as well as recognition by colleagues. I strive to maintain contact with mentees, as mentoring in the present is more a peer-to-peer experience than days of yore. Mentoring others has helped me clarify my own identity as a librarian. It has also presented me with numerous opportunities to lead from where I am, to share my life experience and expertise, to nurture young people who need words of encouragement. It is probably the most exciting responsibility I have as a librarian.

The Librarianship and Education Committee develops and promotes specialized courses (online and/or in person) for individuals interested in Judaica/Hebraica librarianship, both those in library school and those seeking continuing education. I received scholarships annually to attend and present at national and regional conferences.

As organizer of the NY Librarians Meetup, I devoted myself to bringing together library students and information professionals from diverse backgrounds to share ideas and promote understanding of how the field was emerging. Many of my members were librarians in transition, displaced by not only the dire economic crisis, but by developments in technology and information seeking. I, together with a handful of dedicated co-organizers, planned field trips, site visits, workshops and book groups. I met people from every sector of the profession, including online students with no campus to call home and foreign students who were in NYC for internships. I cannot imagine my life as a librarian without this life-changing experience. Although I was saddened to see the group close, I maintain close contact with many colleagues. I continue to represent the mission of this group on social media. The NY Librarians Meetup blog, begun in 2010, is read throughout the world and to date, has had over 100K views. Instructed English as a Second Language to students from grades 7-12. Headed the English Department from 1981-1982.Teaching in the Middle East during my twenties was an experience of a lifetime. I had always wanted to be a teacher, to instruct others in the reading and writing of language. Teaching young Israel, both Jewish and Bedouin (the latter at private, external remedial schools) granted me the opportunity to impart my love of foreign language learning and acquisition. I strove to teach in a manner that promoted risk-taking and confidence building, problem-solving, effective communication and lifelong learning. During my last year in Dimona, I headed the English department. Besides encouraging fellow instructors to maintain standards in matriculation preparation, I strove to guide all in keeping lessons challenging and fun. I look back at those days with tinged regret, having moved on to the field of librarianship. It would not surprise me in the least if I decide to return to English language instruction during retirement.
