Taught the second iteration of the course I developed specifically for Whittier College called, "Sustainable Coffee Supply Chains: Coffee." The course was redesigned to be taught online and aimed to teach students about global coffee supply chains, the major challenges affecting the sector, and examine different strategies offering solutions to these problems. The class culminated with a group project in which students dove deeper into a single sustainability issue (Farmworkers, Climate Change, or Women Equity) and analyzed the efforts of RGC Coffee's Sustainability Program that coincided with their topic. Overall the course aimed to introduce students to the complex and fascinating world of coffee sustainability, emphasizing the importance of sustainable development, challenges facing suppliers and coffee growing regions, and collaboration as the most important component in progressing toward the UN SDGs.

Developed and piloted an undergraduate intersession course titled, “Sustainable Coffee Supply Chains.” The course falls into the “Science and Society” category at the college, therefore its broad objective aimed at studying the relationship between the natural sciences and society. The course goal was to expose students to the complexities impeding the coffee sector from achieving sustainable supply chains and emphasize the importance of taking a cross-collaborative, data driven approach if we are to truly create sustainable and resilient supply chains. The class began with an overview of coffee; its history, botany, economic importance, supply chain and stakeholders. Then, covered the current environmental, social and economic challenges facing the sector and explored various companies and organization working toward enhancing sustainability within the coffee sector.

∙ Developed a Sustainability Agenda aimed at achieving Producer-Level Sustainability across each of Coffee Manufactory's established supply chains, by utilizing a set of measurable Key Performance Indicators. ∙ Managed and supported Coffee Manufactory's sustainability efforts in Colombia, working collaboratively with our partners, SCS Global Services.∙ Developed, launched and managed content for Coffee Manufactory's online blog, Pulp, supporting the company's marketing efforts.∙ Working alongside the Branding Department to promote the company's blog and sustainability initiatives.∙ Produced and managed the creation of Coffee Manufactory's first Sustainability Report, working alongside designers, editors, and Branding Department. ∙ Organized, fundraised and hosted the Specialty Coffee Association event, Bloom. ∙ Supported a team of researchers from the University of Michigan in their investigation of defining a sustainable price of coffee for our Colombian Supply Chain.∙ Coordinated a fundraising dinner for an Ethiopian-based non-profit, Girls Gotta Run Foundation.

∙ Worked collaboratively with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in rearing Tamarixia radiata, an ectoparasitoid used for biological control of Diaphorina citri, a vector of the bacterial citrus disease, huanglongbing∙ Breeding T. radiate assisted in the revitalization of the citrus industry within the Southern California region.

Providence, Rhode Island Area

∙ Conducted an annual passive acoustic monitoring survey to determine the degree white nose syndrome has affected the abundance and species composition of migratory bats within Rhode Island∙ Data was collected in collaboration with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and US Fish and Wildlife Service.
