I am a firm believer that you must be passionate about the "product" you are marketing in order to be good at it, and I found that passion in higher education and lifelong learning. That is why I have stayed at the University of Minnesota for so long. When I started, marketing was akin to a dirty word in higher education, so it has thrilled me over the years to apply great marketing to a great industry to connect people with opportunities. It doesn't get much better than that.I have honed my skills as a persuasive communicator and a champion of critical ideas and initiatives. I learn from mistakes because, let’s face it, not everything goes well all the time, and I build on success. I don’t like to rest on my laurels.Truth be told, I'm a data geek disguised as a marketer. I love synthesizing data and information to tell a story that drives strategy and decision-making. This includes the standard marketing and enrollment metrics that help us be smarter and better. Beyond that, I have also developed a passion for analyzing markets for growth opportunities and delivering comprehensive program assessments.Ultimately, though, it takes a strong team to deliver strong results. I get my energy from leading individuals and teams to peak performance especially in the context of continuous change and increasing expectations.I strive for work-life balance because there are many things I enjoy in life including reading (or listening to) fiction, traveling (long distances or short), biking, and spending time with my family, my friends, and my dog.
