Utilizing my legal background and years of experience in politics and public policy, I researched, monitored, and evaluated policy decisions and trends with implications for the local, state, and national landscape on behalf of MPS and our clients.

The Board of County Commissioners is the legislative branch of Broward County Government. The Commission is responsible for enacting and enforcing local ordinances, establishing the County’sgoals and objectives, approving the County’s Operating and Capital budgets, and appointing the County Administrator, County Attorney, County Auditor and numerous advisory and regulatory boards.As an aide to County Commissioner Nan Rich, I review proposed ordinances and other agenda items for both County Commission and Advisory Board meetings. In addition to reviewing specific agenda items, I conduct research on affordable housing, ending homelessness, climate change resiliency, public health, care for the elderly, and more, with the ultimate goal of bringing forth successful and practical solutions that can be implemented at the local level. Moreover, I frequently attend meetings and events on behalf of Commissioner Rich throughout Broward County and South Florida.

I served as a legal intern in the Civil Rights Project of the UM Law Center for Ethics and Public Service from August of 2014 through May of 2016. Through this internship, I engaged in research and advocacy around various issues that particularly impact low-income communities in Miami-Dade County. These issues included racial discrimination in charter schools, education rights, municipal bond programs, community benefits agreements, and more. I began work as a Fellow at the Center in the 2015-2016 academic year, and in this position I led and directed interns on our various projects.

Community Justice Project (CJP) mission is centered on training lawyers to be more aware of and skilled in addressing the needs of indigent communities; and2) providing desperately-needed legal services to low-income & minority communities in the areas of housing, employment, public benefits, immigration, and community economic development.

-In the Fall of 2014, I worked on a team to produce a comprehensive public report on conditions in Haiti for post-2010 earthquake deportees from the U.S., along with flaws in our domestic policy that are intended to protect those with serious medical issues or family ties from deportation.-In the Spring of 2015, I assisted in representation of two Jamaican asylum applicants and had the privilege of speaking before an asylum officer and in open court in front of an Immigration Judge.

-Conducted extensive legal research and fact-finding on alleged civil rights violations of prison inmates, Monell claims, housing discrimination, and disability discrimination.-Drafted Complaints, Motions, Office Memoranda, Requests for Production, and Interrogatories. -Read letters from inmates in the Florida Dep't of Corrections and evaluated whether they had meritorious claims or problems that constituted further action.

As a UAW Global Organizing Institute Fellow, I was part of the link between the union members, community allies, activists, and the labor movement in general. I took part in social justice activism to educate others about workers' rights and how we can better our communities to ensure that all people have access to jobs with dignity. Although my work was based out of Miami, at the time our organization was specifically focused on the efforts of Nissan workers in Canton, Mississippi to form a union. The UAW Global Organizing Institute allows young activists like myself to work for progress on all fronts.
