We founded 1 Atelier to celebrate the individual and bring the joy back to luxury while eliminating waste and environmental impact. As the only natively custom, natively digital and natively sustainable luxury brand, we are transforming the customer experience to one which is highly immersive, personalized and relevant. CommerceWorks was my platform to build and invest in disruptive platforms and marketplaces at the intersection of commerce, design and technology. I created 1 Atelier here, while also actively investing in and advising other startups, all of which were leveraging technology to disrupt the consumer product value chain.

Solariat developed an assistive AI platform that supported customer service representatives. Sold to Genesys March 2014.

iPinYou is the largest programmatic platform in China, specializing in AI and big data.

Whuffie was a platform for a revolutionary marketplace for social capital based on reputation and expertise.

Wowd (Edgios, Inc.) was a DFJ-backed people-powered network for search, discovery and recommendation. Sold to Facebook.

FertilityAuthority was the only web portal dedicated to fertility - a comprehensive, authoritative and objective source for all things fertility, providing the tools and information for women (and men) to be proactive.

I developed the turn-around plan and implemented phase-one for a business unit which was instrumental in fostering Alumni leadership as a force for long-term change in our nation's public education.

I spent two years advising and investing in a variety of entrepreneurial ventures in China.

I architected and led the implementation of the successful head-to-toe turnaround of the SchoolFood operation – a $500mm, 10,000 employee business that serves 800,000 meals per day across 1700 locations. It was the poster child at the time for healthy school food programs that support the educational goals in public schools across the nation.

I was a co-founder of GoTo.com (later Overture), the Internet company that revolutionized online search and advertising by inventing and pioneering Paid Search Marketing, the advertising business model which today powers Google. We grew the business to ~$1 bn in four years, taking it public one year after launch and eventually selling the business to Yahoo! In the process, we created the most profitable model in the online advertising industry. I am one of four people on our patent for Paid Search.
