I have set out many times to find the right path for myself. Each time I felt like it wasn't quite right. Then, a light bulb went off the first time I learned about a CPT code and it's been a passion ever since. I started as a pharmacy technician ten years ago and have been a secretary in the Division of Plastic Surgery at URMC for almost four years. I began supporting the director of our burn trauma center and grew to be knowledgeable in craniofacial, hand fractures, breast reconstruction, gender reassignment procedures, and of course cosmetic surgeries. Plastics is great because it's a specialty that does everything from head to toe and really lets you dabble in other specialties. I recently earned my CPC title as I've been using the CPT and ICD-10 code sets for the past four years coding surgeries as a secretary. I am ecstatic to have joined Excellus as a Risk Adjustment coder this December. I am continuing studying to obtain my CIC credential.I am an Epic wizard. I thrive with organization. Creating spreadsheets, PDF's and functional word templates excite me. I enjoy making labels and stationery because I take pride in the presentation of everything. The devil is always in the details. Tedious tasks are enjoyable as I find they center me and help me to focus all my energy and attention. When I'm not working, I'm spending time with my three squishy faced animals and "recharging" my introvert batteries. I also enjoy reading and watching the usual medical dramas on TV.
