Towson University

Project Serve is an Orientation program which allows for students to move in early and experience Towson University and Towson through community service. The students spend 3 days serving at local non-profits before classes begin the following week. I participated as a freshman in 2012, and a Lead Facilitator in both 2013 and 2014. As a Lead Facilitator I planned the schedule of the events of Project Serve, contacted non-profits, and created the Project Serve facebook pages. I also facilitated ice-breakers, daily social activities, and reflection for all of the participants.

Towson University

The Big Event is the largest day of community service at Towson University. The planning committee registers individuals and student groups and then sends them to local non-profit organizations as well as homeowners in the Towson region who request assistance. As a member of The Big Event Planning Committee at Towson University, I was responsible for contacting non-profits in the area with an interest in using volunteers on the day of The Big Event. I also conducted site-evaluations and coordinated transportation for the day of the event. I have since become the Assistant Director of Communications for The Big Event 2015. My duties include sending out weekly emails to the committee regarding important information and meeting times, planning retreats, and planning social or service events for the committee.

A sector in the Office of Student Activities, Service Leaders are designated campus representatives in Community Service. Some of the duties and tasks I accomplished as a Service Leader are the following:-Planned and facilitated a total of 3 service trips to various non-profits- Facilitated team-builders and reflections during some of Towson University's largest community service days, Towson Town and Gown, and The Big Event-Created a schedule of events for National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week and National Volunteer Week-Recruited students for various community service opportunities
