A lot of people go to work, but not everyone goes to work in the kind of place where people actually want to work.As a professional, I try to be that difference—the difference between work, and work that happens in a positive, supportive environment. Sure, my work means a lot of problem solving. Anyone in office administration knows that a lot of different things can get thrown at you—new situations, quick changes, lots of people to help out. But I think that my work means more than just problem solving and getting stuff done. More than that, it means having a heart for service. It means thinking about what can be done to make work easier for others, anticipating problems before they happen, and being part of the solution rather than just “present.” In serving others, I’ve learned a lot about myself, and it’s been amazing to see how new challenges and situations have helped me to serve others. I’ve really enjoyed taking on a more active role in the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), and I can see how learning more about my industry has helped me to better apply my strengths in the workplace. Taking on more responsibilities, pushing myself professionally, and keeping a positive attitude has really made my career rewarding. I’m looking forward to applying the skills I have developed onwards into my career!
