Training in IT engineering, I took my skills to England, starting out as a helpdesk consultant at Diageo. Back home in South Africa, though I advanced, I soon tired of playing follow-the-leader; I wanted to provide the solution. So, I put my money where my mouth was and went out on my own – and my company took off. Around this time my childhood friend, Louis, was also running a successful business. To cut a long story short, we joined forces – and never looked back.The secret of our successLouis and I were – and still are – completely fearless in the face of a challenge. We grew from one hosted server in a data centre (from where we sold and supported solutions to match what the biggest companies in the industry were offering) to the Dotcloud group of companies it is now. To date, we are providing State of the Art solutions from Cloud to Machine Learning and AI.Notable 'firsts' – A pioneer in bringing fully customised VMware cloud solutions to the South African market.– The enabling of an architectural firm to do drawings in the cloud on a VMware platform. Back then, it was too costly to use permanently but it was fun nonetheless and we got there before anyone else. – A co-director for Medsol’s first AI solution for the early detection of breast cancer, which is currently running as a pilot in clinics nationwide. Up close and personalI love cycling and keeping fit; I mix this up with good food and wine, and live music. My family keeps me young: my wife Nicky loves an adventure, planning hidden destinations for us to explore, and looking at the world through my children's eyes gives me perspective. I have two kids at university, and a 'laatlam' at primary school. Our high retention rate of happy clients – 99% sourced via word-of-mouth – says that we don't just talk the talk.
