About Stephany Backstrom

I am an outgoing and creative individual with a rich educational history. I am a graduate of Montana State University earning a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a focus in small business management. I am a certified Montessori teacher and small business owner.During my time at Montana State University, I also received an associate degree in interior design and by certificate as an Accredited Staging Professional. I am currently attending the University of Colorado Denver working towards earning my Master's in Early Childhood Education. I own and operate a Montessori School called A Little Journey Montessori School. We recently celebrated our 1 year anniversary.

    As a design studio coordinator I manage the studio library, making sure that all samples are kept up-to-date and are organized. Since starting the position, I made a tremendous amount of progress on making it more efficient to keep the studio organized. I also made it easier for the designers to locate what they need and in some cases, be able to see the price range of certain items, such as with tile and stone. I also manage inventory items from small accessories to large furniture pieces. It is important to keep track of all the items and to make sure the proper cost is associated with items. I also make sure that the studio is staged with as many inventory items as possible, without making it overwhelming, to show some of the unique items that we have. In addition to my tasks in the studio, I also help assist the designers with many different things. Some of the tasks that I do are building and updating client schedules. I also use QuickBooks to make purchase orders and proposals for ordering items such as hardware and wall covering for clients. I also manage orders that have already been done for clients. This includes inspecting items upon their arrival and keeping them organized by client. Once a home is near completion, I also assist in the install process. This is where we bring in all the items that the client ordered, from furniture to rugs to lamps, and all the way down to small accessories and tchotchke's to bring the home together. I use my experience as an Accredited Home Stager to pull everything together and complete the home for a client.

    I started at Pier1 Imports as a seasonal hire for a sales associate position. I was soon promoted into an associate position where I worked with customers helping them select items for their homes or gifts for others. I helped people pick out dishes to change up their kitchens and helped people choose the perfect statement piece for their living room. Shortly after I started working at Pier1 Imports, I was awarded Sales Associate of the Quarter. Meaning that in that particular quarter, I had the highest sales out of all the associates. Again, I was promoted to Sales Lead (Sales Manager). With that promotion I had the responsibility of managing other associates, counting money drawers and that binging and end of shifts. I was also responsible for making deposits and tracking the daily sales numbers. Other tasks that were involved with my position at Pier1 was preparing product displays, making floral arrangements for customers and in store displays. I also was involved with stocking merchandise and product organization of the retail store.
