The article presents relevant information on the phenomenon, specifically on the advent of La Niña in 2017.•The first document of the National Strategic Plan for the El Niño-La Niña Phenomenon in the country was made, in which goals, strategies and activities for the management of the phenomenon were created for the entities of the Committee.•The National Strategic Plan (2019-2030) was socialized for an interdisciplinary group of 35 members of the Commitee, which received positive comments from the members.
