I was a sports camp counselor this past summer at the YMCA. I taught children ages six years of age to twelve years of age a different sport every week. I was the co-lead counselor and my responsibilities included: - Confirm all children had the medical forms, waiver forms, and release forms filled out.- Confirm all children that were dropped off for the day were on the registered list. In the circumstance that the child was not on our registered list, I had to discuss the situation with my director and the parent or legal guardian of the child. - Follow the schedule created for the day, or change the schedule if need be. I sharpened my proactive thinking skill set while in this position. - Confirming all children were picked up by those listed on the release form. In the circumstance, someone came to pick up a child and he or she was not on the release form, I was then to call the parent(s) or legal guardian listed to confirm he or she were allowed to pick up the child. - Communicate with all YMCA directors about any injuries, or problems that occurred during camp hours. - Communicate effectively with the rest of my counselors about time-off, running late to camp, or leaving early.

This enhanced my understanding of taking care of children, and it also was a great opportunity for me to see the behind-the-scenes world of the Cleveland Indians Baseball franchise.

Participated in writing and producing stories for the evening newscast. Primary responsibilities included:- Finding current, local, national, and international stories and write articles about them for the WDTN website and app.- I was given the responsibility of writing different graphics and taglines for the newscasts. I also was able to write the script for the teleprompter for different news stories. - Producing the evening newscasts in the booth. I was in charge of cueing reporters and clearing them on time. I was able to enhance my problem-solving skills, writing, communication, and being able to work in a fast pace environment. Participated in on location shoots and interviews. Primary responsibilities included: - Going to story locations and shooting establishing shots, which involved setting up a camera and microphones. - Interviewing people for news stories.

I currently work for the creative department that works with promotional ideas and projects. I have worked with Living Dayton reporters and also their sports reporters. I have recently participated in events that circulates around the CW reality television show The Valley. Every Friday I work Operation Football and provide fun activities for students at local high schools. I also help reporter Katie Kenney with live broadcasting and find participants for the Arby's Slider Challenge.

We also had weeks that included "gym class" type games. We also talked our four core values as a YMCA organization, and talked to the participants about Anti-Bullying and how to be a Y-Athlete. During these discussions we gave them examples of professional athletes that demonstrate the four YMCA values. This enhanced their knowledge of leadership and also showed how they can do community service in their own towns.
