Pete has an impressive capacity to establish almost immediate rapport with internal and external constituents at all levels to influence positive work environments and challenge the norms with his positivity.Coach Pete grew up in St Croix County and graduated from Hudson High School in 1987. He attended the University of Wisconsin Madison from 1987 to 1991 and majored in Communication Arts. After finishing up at the University, Pete attended the Madison Fire Academy and was hired by Dane County Public Safety Communications in April 1992. After a rewarding 31-year career Pete retired from Dane County in March of 2023 as a Senior Operations Supervisor. Growing up in St Croix County Pete was an avid freestyle skier with big air and bumps as his passion. In the early days, he was a ski instructor at Snow Crest, Birch Park, and Afton Alps solidifying his passion for all things on snow. Pete made his coaching debut with the Tyrol Basin Ski Team during the 2009/2010 ski season and completed his on-snow US SKI level 200 coaching requirements in the fall of 2012. Pete eventually gained his Alpine Official Certifications and continued adding to his on-snow resume studying under and coaching for many organizations and adult leagues. Pete’s biggest influence was being an assistant to Pat Slattery and coaching many Brule Thanksgiving Camps, eventually joining his team MART full-time in 2014. He mentored under the legend until MART was rebranded and became MAD Alpine under the Koop racing umbrella. Pete spent 3 seasons with the Koops coaching summers and winters for Mad Alpine and Gilboa Racing traveling the USSA circuit, including numerous Junior Olympics, and spending lots of time at numerous ski areas in Colorado. In 2019 Pete navigated his way to Devils Head ski area to start an adult league and reintroduce NASTAR to the area. Pete had many enjoyable winters until he blew up his knee for the 3rd time in 2021. Pete remains a certified 200-level US SKI Alpine Racing Coach and holds Chief of course, Chief of Race, Referee, Competition Official, and Jury Advisor Certifications. Pete currently holds a FIS license, and he is also registered as a level 6 Alpine Master. Fundamentals and fun encompass Pete’s core philosophy and he believes “If they are not having fun, we are doing something wrong.”
