These novel antimicrobials show promise as treatments for drug resistant pathogens, as they have been demonstrated to be active on MRSA, and other antibiotic resistant strains. Skills• Developed technologies for the treatment, detection, and identification of invasive pathogens using rationally designed antimicrobial proteins. • Cloned, over expressed, and purified antimicrobial native and recombinant proteins for efficacy evaluation with invasive pathogens in a BSL-2 Setting.• Identified candidate antimicrobials for further characterization in vitro and in vivo.• Composed journal articles and presented findings both internally and at international meetings.• Trained and supervised junior postdocs, technical staff, and undergraduates. • Fostered collaborations both within USDA and with external scientists.
