Talent Match was a 5-year Lottery funded 1 to 1 mentoring project for young adults aged 18 – 24 years old who were long-term unemployed or out of education. I worked for Together Housing on the Talent Match scheme for 4 years. I was initially asked to manage a caseload of 4 young adults, but due to quickly moving them into work and the quality of the support I offered, I was quickly managing a full-time caseload of over 10. I developed strong working relationships with external referral agencies and potential employers within the Calderdale area. I supported my clients to overcome issues such as unemployment, independent living skills, mental health issues, drug and alcohol addiction, homelessness, debt management, confidence and communication issues, welfare support, and more. When I was asked to support the scheme in 2015, Together Housing was going to terminate the Talent Match contract due to underperformance and the scheme not being cost-effective. I single-handedly ensured that the project continued for a further 3 years, during that time the profits generated and the targets achieved put Together Housing organisation in the top 3 performing Talent Match deliverers in the Leeds City region. Key Achievements:• Securing 85% of clients into sustained employment, education or apprenticeships. • Helping Newground Together to exceed their annual forecast of 2016 • Maintaining a detailed and well-organised monitoring system.• Being a caring and empathetic key worker.• Managing complex and highly demanding caseloads.• Planning, delivering, monitoring, and evaluating a life skills program entitled the “GROW project”.
