I am a motivated team member with strong interests in environmental health and safety and in organic synthesis. In organic synthesis, I love the creativity required to optimize synthetic processes for efficiency, cost, yield, and safety. Environmental health and safety pulls together my passions for chemistry, safety, and working with people.Being a SCUBA instructor has taught me life skills that are difficult pick up in an academic environment: responsibility for team safety, constructive interactions with students and peers, how to break down complex processes into understandable steps, excellent hands on emergency response skills, rapid adoption of changing regulations and rules, a love of the environment, an understanding of liability, and the maximization of safety while minimizing risk in a business setting. I enjoy challenging and evolving situations that allow me to apply and grow knowledge base and problem solving skills.Specific Strengths:•Strong understanding of general and organic chemistry•Hands-on experience with analytical and preparative instrumentation, including spectrophotometers, high performance liquid chromatography, ion exchange and gas chromatography, atomic absorption, mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry, potentiometry•Training in emergency response and situation handling•Experience with project planning and management•Computer programming experience: C, C++, Pascal, Scheme and Java
