My educational journey has helped me to discover how my talents and abilities can truly make the world a better place. During my first two years at Colorado Mountain College, I studied elementary education and completed over one-hundred hours of fieldwork in the local elementary schools. I also worked as a Severe-Special-Needs paraprofessional at Berry Creek Middle School. Throughout that experience, I learned responsibility and accountability, adaptability, flexibility, professionalism, and commitment to excellent work.When I began studying sustainability, I looked for opportunities to work in the field and became a sustainability intern for the Walking Mountains Science Center. My time in education prepared me for the challenges of effectively communicating sustainability best-practices to local businesses through the Walking Mountains’ Actively Green Program. My involvement with the Walking Mountains helped me learn about and participate in other sustainability volunteer initiatives such as the river clean-ups and local zero-waste events. Sustainability education has also helped me improve factors within my own life such as adopting a healthier and more sustainable diet, less consumption, and more sustainable forms of travel. Sustainability education has taught me how my everyday choices matter and are connected to so many other aspects of life.
