Profile bio

About Stephen Bell

I am a recent graduate of the University of Waterloo, where I earned a Bachelor of Environmental Studies in June 2021. I have also completed a degree in Psychology at York University, with an English minor. My unique educational background, which combines knowledge of psychology with environmental issues, makes me a strong candidate for jobs related to sustainability and human behaviour.I have also recently completed a specialization in Digital Marketing offered by Ted Rogers School of Management's Diversity Institute, which has increased my knowledge of branding, content creation, graphic design, blogging, SEO, and social media marketing.Aside from my interests in the environment and psychology, I am also passionate about music, literature and the arts. I have written original pieces of music for piano and orchestra and have utilized music as a way to explore new methods of science communication via a piece of music that translates Canadian bird population data into sound. My compositions are available on my YouTube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMsFc73PNVuAGqnXMHygJZg------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Links to Research PapersFor my Environmental Studies final research paper, I explored how the education system can be utilized to strengthen human connection to nature: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uzPN_OC32YORF8LeUfBcYxG0Ci2J2Mji/view?usp=sharingI have also written a paper in which I used a systems thinking approach to examine psychological variables that influence recycling behaviour: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xtnFA3x0S-01zsKUw7feMtCh5I9cGGrv/view?usp=sharingFor my Psychology thesis, I explored my interests in literature and storytelling. I completed an original research study that evaluated fictional writing as a tool to raise awareness about gender-related issues. This study involved 140 participants who were asked to read a short story about a gender non-conforming character and to complete a survey. The study examined the influence of two variables, gender conformity and empathy, on how strongly the reader identified with the character. I completed statistical analyses and found that empathy was a significant predictor of identification with the character, but not gender conformity.
