Associate Editor
Dublin 1
I have been working with Independent News & Media in Dublin, since May 1998.Up to May 2019 I occupied the position of Associate Editor, which entails news gathering, determining the most newsworthy stories for The Herald's Sports section, while working closely with the Sports Editor and reporters to ensure the best product possible goes to print on a daily basis. From a design point of view, I use graphic design (Adobe Photoshop) to aid in the editing of pages while lending my expertise and experience to my fellow colleagues on the desk.I also assist in the production of the Herald's weekly Sports 72 pull-out and Dublin GAA section on a weekly basis. I conceptualise and design the newspaper's Premier League magazine which is published in mid-August annually. I am proficient in Adobe InDesign which the company introduced for page production purposes in May 2014. Previously I gained an expert knowledge of the use of Atex Prestige. I also have a good knowledge of Adobe Photoshop which is used on a daily basis at The Herald. From a digital point of view, I have experience in INM's Escenic system which is used to edit the independent.ie website and I am currently studying for an INM Digital Journalist certificate, which the company runs in conjunction with the National College of Ireland. The modules covered on this course are: Innovation, Communications & Consultancy, Technology & User Experience, Data Analysis and Digital Multimedia. I not only have a keen interest in Sports, but I am also hugely interested in current affairs, both domestic and internationally, and popular culture and would be interested in employment in these fields from a journalistic point of view if the opportunity arose in future.
