My name is Rob Benson, and I work at a regional bank in Arkansas. I started working in the bank while getting my degree, and I ended up staying after graduating. I spent 4.5 years in the frontlines, assisting customers directly, starting as a teller, and eventually ending up as an account and loan specialist. I helped many different people in this role, and learned many skills related to sales, customer interactions, and even conflict de escalation. It was during this time however, that I realized I enjoyed the more technical and data side of the job. This led me to seek out areas of the job where I could gather and collect data, and then present it to my management for different metrics for our branch and region. After seeking out more and more work that was outside the scope of my current job, I applied to the operations side of the bank, and got a job in data reporting and analysis. In this new role, I was given the opportunity to learn many new skills as well as given access to technologies I did not have before. I advanced my already above average excel skills, but also started using SQL, VBA, SSMS, PowerBI, Tableau, and just recently BigQuery and Fiserv Nautilus. Our team also embraced the SAFe Agile methodologies and used Azure DevOps and now Atlassian Jira software, and I am scrum certified. I am currently assisting our team with a full conversion from MS products to Google Suite, which involves converting hundreds of individual reports.
