While I was there, I stabilised the team (which used to have very high turnover), trained some of the staff (and some trained me!), put financial processes in place, assisted with a debt facility, brought in comprehensive weekly and monthly reporting so that the results were accurate and insightful (margins, metrics etc)..especially the weekly results with future revenue forecast based on a pipeline of clients, built the annual budget and rolling forecast, brought up to date all reconciliations, negotiated client (B2B) contracts and the usual finance and company secretarial duties. -
Cfo And Company SecretaryEarly Start Australia Apr 2019 - Jul 2021Perth, Western Australia, AustraliaI joined ESA when they were a small group turning over circa AUD$6m and had acquired a few clinics via equity deals. When I arrived I reviewed the level of consultant spend and reduced that by $375k per annum in my first month, I also reviewed and discontinued an ERP project that was going to cost hundreds of thousands and reworked/simplified the Group structure so that there was no longer a need for an overly complicated, ERP system. I restructured the Group to better achieve the outcomes, including scalability through process simplification and tax benefits. Worked on systems, processes and procedures to better integrate current and new acquisitions. Built the first robust 5-year financial model with a tool to assess acquisition targets and benchmark against – measure ROI and payback periods. Implemented monthly management accounts, operational reports with key business drivers and improved cashflow.Assisted growing annual revenue from $6m to 5 times that, through organic growth and new acquisitions (on average 2 a month, and 3 in busier times at the end of my time there) and improved profitability through pricing strategies, cost management and transparent KPI’s. -

An early-stage start-up with the potential to change the way people select, try on and buy eyewear online.I joined as CFO and Company Secretary as the Company had just applied to ASIC for an IPO which was unfortunately not approved (due to a promoter issue in that some of the core technology was bought from a supplier who was an initial shareholder). From that moment on the Company had to pivot away from an International launch and focused only on Australia although with it's funding curtailed this proved difficult.While I was there I accomplished the followingIncreased the R&D refund from $0.2m to $0.5m in FY17 and the last refund from $0.8 to $2.6m through innovative planning and treatment of non-core technology.Clean Early-Stage Innovation Company application with the ATO ensuring that all eligible shareholders had the opportunity to take advantage of the significant tax benefits.Setup the share registry in house with over 100 shareholders all receiving regular updates.Reviewed the supplier contracts in place and saved circa $250k.Brought in governance, board meetings and reporting and restructured most processes and procedures in the business including a new system for stock management.
