About Stephen Bowman
The opinions expressed are solely my own and do not reflect the view or stance of my employer.Since 1995 I have worked in a number of roles, mostly supporting library-related IT systems.I have been able to adapt to the implementation of different software solutions in different sectors and have varied experience of implementing SaaS products.In January 2024 I re-joined Clarivate as Customer Success Manager assisting customers with Alma and Primo VE solutions.In 2022 I undertook a Technical Project Manager role at The Inn Collection Group, rolling out Procure Wizard, a SaaS procurement/menu engineering solution. This included documentation, staff training, project implementation and support case handling. It was a useful opportunity to see how a SaaS product could work in a non-library environment. The implementation methodology differed from those I had seen in the libraries sector but the net goal was still achieved with the system in use at all pubs in the group.My career has included working for 3 providers of integrated library solutions Ex Libris (part of Clarivate), Civica and BLCMP/Talis. This has meant that I have been supporting customers in both the academic (Ex Libris + BLCMP) and public library worlds. This has given me an appreciation for the distinction between both markets and the separate requirements for these customers.My most recent positions in the academic libraries sector saw me working as an implementation consultant. I implemented Alma for over 40 Ex Libris customers. I also evolved my skills to provide later implementations for Primo VE in tandem with Alma. These implementation projects included providing presentations to the customer, delivery of training (online or on-site), answering support queries and problem solving to provide workflow solutions. I was able to use my extensive experience of other library-related technologies to assist in the deliver of 3rd party integrations with Alma – especially for self-check systems (Bibliotheca), RFID management (Bibliotheca) and access control systems (Sentry).
