Jazz is a major passion for me. At WORT89.9-FM, I have produced, hosted and co-hosted a jazz program from 1982-85 then again from 2004 until today. I pursue this art form with diligence, seriousness of mind and a commitment to the musicians, the art form and to the general public to educate them about jazz. During my tenure as jazz co-host of "Strictly Jazz Sounds," my partner and I have interviewed NEA Jazz Masters and jazz legends, including Sonny Rollins, McCoy Tyner, Roy Haynes, Geri Allen, Sonny Fortune, Richard Davis, Roscoe Mitchell, Anthony Braxton and Terri Lyne Carrington as well as Dexter Gordon's spouse, author and promoter, Maxine Gordon. Through the Greater Madison Area Jazz Consortium, I, along with my colleagues, promoted jazz performance, jazz education for youth and adults, and supported jazz venues and musicians.

Responsible for the operations, management, fund-raising, promotions and coalition building for this civil rights and community capacity building organization in Madison, WI. The League, with a 30 FTE employee complement, is one of Madison's most effective non-profit organizations, working with a wide range of groups and individuals, from local/state political leaders to major corporations to the United Way of Dane Cty.The President/CEO is responsible for fundraising strategy and implementation. During my tenure I was very successful in this area. The most substantial fundraising success was working with individuals and the Madison Community Foundation to raise the first $100,000 for the League's first endowment fund. Other successes include reformatting the spring fundraiser which increased the net amount by 400 percent. Coalition building is essential for addressing our community's key issues. Under my leadership, this was a priority. Subsequently, the League was recognized by the CUNA Foundation as a winning coalition builder, awarding ULGM $20,000 for three years.

The Wisconsin Clearinghouse for Prevention Services is a statewide education and information provider on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse, high-risk behaviors that can lead to high-risk sexuality and violent behaviors with a special focus on children and youth. I facilitated the dissemination of this information through grant writing, grant management, staff/personnel management, assuring quality management of library materials available to WI school educators, public health nurses, hospitals, prevention organizations, public policy analysts, legislators and numerous State agencies. Also assisted organizations and communities in strategic planning, community capacity building, creating community coalitions to address AODA and gang prevention. Published related articles for the website and free distribution through the library. Assisted the director in all matters as indicated.

Provided services for alumni/alumnae of color and LGBT. Also worked with the UW-Madison chancellor's office, Department of Admissions and the University Foundation to raise funds and volunteers to assist recruiting qualified LGBT/students of color for admission to UW-Madison. Worked with individual alumni groups on planning and executing activities for other alumni and interested students. Collaborated with other university programs and departments on related issues, consulting, analyzing and creating strategic directions.

Teacher of students determined by a series of evaluations to have specific learning disabilities. Provided instruction based on an individualized education program, worked with colleagues on these students' academic and behavior concerns, collaborated with student services staff as a team member, met with parents at school and their homes re: their child in my class and program.

Produced broadcast news for WORT89.9-FM, Back Porch Radio, Inc. and served as co-news director of the news department. Responsible for hiring, training and supervising news volunteers for a one-half hour live radio evening news that covered international and national events and related local news. Managed the department with my co-director to assure quality output, maintain good morale and provide up-to-date news from an alternative perspective to mainstream news.
