Using research-based projects as a way of collecting information and engaging with land owners to develop agri-environment schemes to improve land management in the UK. Projects included a 2-year field-based study on re-establishing Grey Partridge and a 3-year field-based study on the diet and disease susceptibility of the Grey Partridge. Contracted by the UK Government to undertake an assessment of the Arable Stewardship Scheme in benefiting Grey Partridge and Brown Hare and to undertake a review of hunting bag statistics in connection with the EU Birds Directive. A 3-year field-based study of the breeding ecology of the Turtle Dove, which contributed significantly to UK agri-environment policies.

Responsible for undertaking ornithological surveys and produced reports to assess the impact of proposed developments and agricultural intensification. Also organised and reported on national single species surveys, including Skylark and Lapwing. Undertook many analyses and publication of information on bird ecology.
