I am now working part time having reduced my working hours substantially prior to retirement.I have over thirty years of experience in NDT and I am an experienced project manager as well as being a recognised technical expert in the fields of digital radiography and novel/advanced ultrasonics. For 20 years, I was the programme manager of the HOIS JIP for NDT good practice in the oil and gas industry from 2001 until 2021, during which time the membership has more than tripled.I pioneered the development of the advanced M-skip ultrasonic technique for inspection of inaccessible components in the oil and gas industry such as pipe supports which is now being increasing applied in-service.My experience of digital radiography and tomography dates from the late 1980’s when I led the development of a commercial system for computerised tomography called TOMOHAWK. More recently, I led the HOIS projects on digital radiography, and am now the BSI principal national expert for the development of Radiographic Standards via the ISO committees ISO/TC 44/SC 5/WG 1 and ISO/TC 138/SC5/WG 1. In this role, I led the development of the international standards on in-service radiography, EN16407 parts 1 and 2 which were then revised to become ISO 20769 parts 1 & 2 (published in 2018). Since then I have played an active role in the revision of the manufacturing weld radiography standard, ISO 17636, parts 1 and 2.I have managed many blind trial projects within the HOIS JIP that have included a wide range of NDT technologies for many of the current challenges in the oil and gas industry such as CUI/external corrosion and corrosion under pipe supports. I have a good working knowledge of the physical basis and limitations of many other NDT methods, including electromagnetic (e.g. pulsed eddy current). In addition, I am the principal author of many of the authoritative HOIS recommended practice and guidance documents, some of which are publicly available from http://www.hoispublications.comI have presented technical papers at numerous NDT conferences, including WCNDT2012 and WCNDT 2016 and ECNDT. I was the lead author of three separate papers that received the BINDT Annual Best Conference Paper Award, most recently in 2016.
